Sporting Kansas City hold Houston Dynamo in Texas

Sporting Kansas City walk away with a point in their MLS Eastern Conference encounter with Houston Dynamo at BBVA Compass Stadium.

Houston Dynamo have missed the chance to cut the gap on Sporting Kansas City in the MLS Eastern Conference by being held to a goalless draw in Texas.

Victory at BBVA Compass Stadium would have seen Dominic Kinnear's side pull themselves within a point of the second-placed Wizards, who trail leaders New York Red Bulls.

However, wasteful finishing means that they are looking over their shoulder rather than ahead, with sixth-placed Chicago Fire five points behind them having played a fewer game.

Bobby Boswell was guilty of missing Houston's best chance of the evening, while Will Bruin found Sporting keeper Jimmy Nielsen in top form.

Dom Dwyer has the visitors' best attempt in the second half, but otherwise their point was built largely on their defensive display.
