The visitors held their advantage until the break despite a spirited response from the home side.

Dundee had a huge penalty shout within two minutes of the restart when Brian McLean handled before Johnny Russel struck the post.

Tangerines captain Jon Daly made the result safe from the penalty spot after 72 minutes after Stuart Armstrong was fouled by Gary Irvine.

United added some gloss to the scoreline in the 88th minute when Willo Flood's drive was deflected in by Kyle Benedictus.
