Olivier Giroud says that he wants to sign a new contract at Chelsea after making four starts in a row in all competitions.

Olivier Giroud has suggested that he wants to sign a new contract at Chelsea, despite spending much of the season on the sidelines.

After Frank Lampard's arrival last summer, Giroud soon found himself behind Tammy Abraham and Michy Batshuayi in the pecking order, resulting in speculation about a January exit.

However, since Abraham sustained an ankle injury, the France international has made four successive starts in all competitions, scoring once against Tottenham Hotspur.

Rather than leave on a free transfer at the end of June, Giroud has revealed that he is currently keen to extend his stay at Stamford Bridge.

The 33-year-old is quoted by the Evening Standard as saying: "Yes. Yes. Yeah, of course. There are a few months to go, games to win and maybe another trophy, and after, you know, I think I have two (or) three nice seasons in front of me.

"It's not the time to talk about contracts and everything but I will take a decision when it comes."

Giroud is expected to start when Chelsea face Everton in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.
