Jose Mourinho: 'John Terry is best centre-back in English football'

John Terry is "the best centre-back in English football", according to his Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho.

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has heaped further praise on captain John Terry by describing him as the best English centre-back of his generation.

The 34-year-old, who was named in the PFA Team of the Year on Sunday evening, has played a key part in the Blues' charge to the brink of the Premier League title this season.

Mourinho was particularly impressed by Terry's performance against Arsenal last time out, which he felt was the defender's "best" during his time at the club.

Ahead of tomorrow's meeting with Leicester City, the Portuguese has now labelled his skipper as one of the greatest to play the game on these shores.

"In this generation, I think he is the best centre-back in English football as he has so many international caps and so many titles with Chelsea," he is quoted as saying by talkSPORT.

"He is also a good goalscorer for a central defender and the team is always well organised when he is playing. The two seasons prior to my arrival, he was not seen as an important part of the Chelsea team.

"He was not really playing, only sometimes on the bench, and you were anticipating his departure. However, last season was good for him and in my opinion he has been even better this season."

Terry has made over 630 appearances for Chelsea, although he called time on his international career with England back in 2012 due to a high-profile falling out with Football Association chiefs.
