Jose Mourinho: Chelsea "one step closer" to Premier League title success

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho believes that keeping a clean sheet against Queens Park Rangers was always the key to picking up the points at Loftus Road.

Jose Mourinho has praised the performance of his players at Loftus Road this afternoon, having seen Chelsea move "one step closer" to claiming their first Premier League title in five years.

A 1-0 victory over Queens Park Rangers, which came courtesy of Cesc Fabregas's late strike in West London, saw the Blues take another giant leap towards finishing top.

Chelsea can wrap things up before the visit of Liverpool on May 10, with Mourinho already looking ahead to the possible permutations in the closing weeks of the season.

"Our situation was positive," he is quoted as saying by BBC Sport. "One point would be one less point we need but the reality is three points and it is one less match we need to win. It is one step closer.

"We need three wins and two draws. When we have one match more to play than the other teams. Our situation is good. Pure mathematics. We need 11 points. It is an important step. We kept calm and tried to keep calm against a side who were very well organised defensively.

"During the season you always have these moments where you lose and win points at end of the game. We lost points at the end at Old Trafford and won points in last few minutes today. I always thought it was very important to keep a clean sheet because it was always going to be difficult to keep a clean sheet here."

Chelsea face Manchester United in their next outing, before travelling to take on second-placed Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium in two weeks' time.
