Tonia Couch, Sarah Barrow having mixed emotions on Commonwealth 10m synchro silver

England diving duo Tonia Couch and Sarah Barrow have expressed differing emotions a day after they won silver medals in the synchronised 10m platform event at the Commonwealth Games.

Both women were upset with the judges' scores yesterday lunchtime, but were in different moods today after having time to reflect on their achievement overnight.

Sports Mole spoke to both of the Plymouth 25-year-olds after the 10m individual preliminaries at the Royal Commonwealth Pool in Edinburgh, and they expressed opposite emotions - Couch was more upbeat, with Barrow still a little sullen.

"To be honest, we didn't expect a medal going against people who came second, third and fourth at the [FINA World Cup]," Couch said.

"We really expected to come fifth or fourth. To get the silver medal, looking back at it, we should have been a lot happier.

"We were so close to gold, so it was a little bit disappointing, but I feel really happy now."

Barrow, on the other hand, admitted that yesterday's silver was still affecting her.

"I probably dwell on things a bit more than Tonia does," she said. "I'm struggling today a bit more than she is.

"We were so close, but it doesn't matter now. It's happened and hopefully I'll feel a bit better going into the final tonight."

Couch qualified for the 10m final later this evening with the third-best score, while Barrow had the ninth-best just behind 13-year-old teammate Victoria Vincent.
