Poland's Justyna Kowalczyk: 'I never give up'

Justyna Kowalczyk of Poland says that her never-say-die attitude is the reason behind her success at the 2014 Sochi Games.

Poland's Justyna Kowalczyk has said that her determination to continue despite a fractured foot was the key to her winning gold at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi.

The 31-year-old, who suffered the fracture in her left foot last month, finished first in the women's cross-country 10km classic on Thursday.

"I felt an ache in my foot, but I overcame it," she told reporters. "We knew what we were here for.

"It was unlucky that it happened to me. Everything was going wrong, but I am not one of these people who give up."

Sweden's Charlotte Kalla won the silver medal in the event, while Therese Johaug of Norway clinched bronze.
