Poland skier Justyna Kowalczyk 'fractures foot'

Poland cross-country skier Justyna Kowalczyk suffers a 'very small' fracture in her left foot, but will continue competing at the Sochi Olympics, according to reports.

Poland cross-country skier Justyna Kowalczyk has suffered a 'very small' fracture in her left foot, aggravating an existing injury, but will continue competing at the Sochi Olympics, according to reports.

The 31-year-old, a gold medallist at the 2010 Vancouver Games and a four-time overall World Cup champion, suffered the initial injury in January, but went on to take part in the women's 15km skiathlon on Saturday, where she finished sixth.

Team spokesman Henryk Urbas is said to have told reporters that the injury is 'not so serious' and that the 'treatment will help her be ready for the start' of the 10km classical style race on Thursday.

Kowalczyk will not be competing in the individual freestyle sprint on Tuesday.
