South Korea's Park Seung-Hi victorious in 1,000m short track

Park Seung-Hi wins gold in the women's 1,000m short track speed skating event in Sochi, while Fan Kexin and Shim Suk-Hee finish second and third respectively.

South Korea's Park Seung-Hi won the women's 1,000m short track speed skating event at the 2014 Winter Olympics on Friday.

The 21-year-old overtook Team USA's Jessica Smith early on in the race and maintained her position to the finish line in a time of 1:30.761.

Fan Kexin of China finished second and won the silver medal, while Park's compatriot Shim Suk-Hee came third and clinched bronze.

Smith finished last in the four-woman final, for which Team GB's Elise Christie could not qualify as she was penalised for impeding China's Li Jianrou in the semi-finals.
