Great Britain have qualified for the semi-finals of the women's curling at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing following a dramatic day of action.

Eve Muirhead's side went into the final group games with the odds stacked against them and needing a string of results to go their way in order to progress.

First and foremost, Team GB needed to win their match against the Russian Olympic Committee - something they managed by a 9-4 scoreline with an end to spare.

The Brits went into the ninth end with just a one-point lead after a steal from the ROC in the eighth, but Muirhead held her nerve to earn a big four points as their opponents conceded.

The British quartet then faced an anxious wait to discover whether they would qualify for the semi-final, with their place dependent on other results.

Switzerland had beaten Japan at a similar time to Team GB's win to give them the first result they needed, but they had to wait to watch the final end of Sweden's match with South Korea.

Victory for Sweden would have set up a semi-final for Great Britain against the Swedes, and sure enough the Scandinavian country wrapped up an 8-4 win.

Earlier in the day, GB's men beat Canada 5-2 to secure top spot in their pool, having already sealed their semi-final spot with two games to spare.
