Sloane Stephens moves past Monica Puig

Sloane Stephens books her spot in the quarter-finals of Wimbledon with a 4-6 7-5 6-1 victory over Monica Puig.

Sloane Stephens has booked her place in the quarter-finals of Wimbledon with a 4-6 7-5 6-1 victory over Monica Puig.

It was Puig who took control of the first set at 2-2, securing consecutive breaks to move 5-2 ahead. Stephens did break back moments later, but it was not enough to stop Puig from moving ahead in the match.

Just the one break of serve occurred in the second, however, with Stephens securing the decisive game at 5-6 to send the match into a third and final set.

Stephens was broken in the opening game of the third, but three consecutive breaks moved the American into a 5-1 lead before she held to book her spot in the next round of the competition.
