Janowicz beats Kubot in straight sets

Jerzy Janowicz has defeated Polish compatriot Lukas Kubot to reach the semi-finals at Wimbledon.

The number 24 seed was given a test by the more experienced Kubot, but the big-serving Janowicz prevailed with a 7-5 6-4 6-4 triumph.

Both players began the match in superb fashion on serve, but it was Kubot who faltered first, allowing Janowicz to break in the 11th game to take an early advantage.

Kubot improved in the early stages of the second but he was unable to break Janowicz's serve, and the 22-year-old struck to move one away from the semi-finals.

Like in the second, Kubot missed opportunities to break Janowicz but failed to capitalise, and after breaking in the ninth game, Janowicz held serve to love to make his maiden Grand Slam semi-final.
