Nishikori broke instantly before going on to claim the opening set 6-4, but Raonic fought back emphatically as two breaks allowed him to close out the second 6-4.

Both players continued to hold serve during a tight third set, though it was the Canadian who eventually gained the initiative in the tie-break as two mini-breaks saw him take it 7-4.

It was a similar story in the fourth as the two men gave little away before Raonic found a crucial break on his way to sealing his progress 4-6 6-4 7-6(4) 6-3.

Waiting for the eighth seed in the last eight will be either Rafael Nadal or Nick Kyrgios.
