Petra Kvitova books semi-final spot at Wimbledon

Petra Kvitova books her place in the semi-finals of Wimbledon courtesy of a straight-sets win over compatriot Barbora Zahlavova-Strycova.

Petra Kvitova has booked her place in the semi-finals of Wimbledon courtesy of a 6-1 7-5 victory over Barbora Zahlavova-Strycova this evening.

Kvitova made the perfect start to the contest as she broke serve in the very first game, while going on to hold her own serve despite Zahlavova-Strycova earning a break point.

Both players struggled to dominate on their own serve, but it was Kvitova who took advantage of her opportunities with two further breaks in the first set to take it 6-1.

The second set saw an improvement from Zahlavova-Strycova as both players held serve in the first six games before a spell of four breaks in succession left the score at 5-5.

Kvitova then restored order against her compatriot with a love game before repeating that feat in the final game to claim a third consecutive break and take the second set 7-5.

Kvitova will now face Lucie Safarova in the last four.
