Angelique Kerber sails past Misaki Doi to reach quarter-finals at Wimbledon

Kerber breezes into quarter-finals

Angelique Kerber secured a place in the quarter-finals at Wimbledon in just over an hour on Monday after beating Misaki Doi in the fourth round at SW19.

The 28-year-old German, whose best finish at the All England Club was the semi-finals in 2012, earned a 6-3 6-1 triumph on the grass court.

Kerber drew first blood in the opening set by breaking her opponent's serve to take a 2-1 lead, but Doi came close to creating a break point of her own three games later.

The Australian Open champion managed to keep Doi at bay, though, as she broke again to seal the set before earning a quick double break in the second.

Doi tried to fight back as she came close to converting her first break point of the match, but Kerber kept composure to hold serve.

The Japanese competitor denied her opponent two match points, but Kerber's win was inevitable as she wrapped it up on serve.
