Clijsters wins as Zvonareva retires

Kim Clijsters has continued her last ever Wimbledon campaign after her opponent Vera Zvonareva retired through illness.

Clijsters looked in control of the match when the stoppage was called, already one set up and with a break in the second.

The opening set saw both players broken regularly, as Clijsters won three games on Zvonareva's serve while the Russian responded by winning two on the Belgian's, meaning that Clijsters took the set 6-3.

Set two was more traditional in that the two players managed to defend their serve more often, until Clijsters broke her opponent in what would turn out to be the last game of the match.

Zvonareva called on the doctor and was forced to retire due to her feeling unwell and being concerned about a groin injury.

Clijsters will now continue her Wimbledon farewell on Monday.
