Wimbledon hawk stolen

Police have confirmed that a hawk belonging to Wimbledon has been stolen.

The harrier hawk, named Rufus, was used to patrol the skies over SW19 to scare off pigeons from the courts.

However, the four-year-old was stolen, along with his cage, some time between Thursday night and Friday morning.

The bird was in a car parked on a private drive in Wimbledon with the rear window open to provide ventilation.

Officers have appealed for anyone with information to contact them immediately.
