Heather Watson disappointed with Wimbledon exit

Watson disappointed with Wimbledon exit

Heather Watson has conceded that she was extremely disappointed with her third-round exit at Wimbledon against world number one Serena Williams.

The 23-year-old held a 3-0 lead in the deciding set against the American and then had the chance to serve for the match at 5-4, but Williams rallied to clinch her place in the round of 16 by taking the set 7-5.

Watson told reporters: "I was two points away from winning that match so I am pretty disappointed. The atmosphere was fantastic and pushed me on, but I just wished I could have closed it out.

"I wouldn't call losing the greatest day of my career. I am pleased that I gave myself the chance to play the best in the world and gave myself the opportunity to beat her. I didn't take it, but I hope the experience will help me next time."

Watson equalled her best performance at a Grand Slam at Wimbledon this year.
