Maria Sharapova has expressed her relief after reaching the fourth round of Wimbledon with a straight-sets win over Alison Riske.

The former champion eased through to the last 16 on Saturday thanks to a 6-3 6-0 triumph that lasted a little over an hour on Centre Court.

Sharapova, who was knocked out in the second round last year, admits that she is just happy to still be in the tournament heading into the second week.

"I felt better as the match went on," she told BBC Sport. "Alison is a great grass-court player so I knew it was going to be tough but I got there.

"I am just happy to be in the second week after last year's result so I couldn't wait to come back and give myself a chance to see what I can do."

Waiting for Sharapova in the fourth round will be either ninth seed Angelique Kerber or 24th seed Kirsten Flipkens.
