Seven-time champion Pete Sampras believes that Roger Federer will beat Andy Murray in Sunday's Wimbledon final.

Seven-time Wimbledon champion Pete Sampras has backed Roger Federer to beat Andy Murray in Sunday's men's final at the All England Club.

Federer is bidding to equal Sampras's record number of titles at SW19 following his semi-final victory over defending champion Novak Djokovic on Friday.

"Roger's always the favorite at Wimbledon, for me, he always will be," Sampras told ESPN. "Just because of his game and his calm nerve. That's something you need in the Wimbledon final. You need to keep it simple and go out and play your tennis.

"Andy has a shot, but he's dealing with the hopes and dreams of a nation.

"Roger's the favorite, but anything can happen out there if Andy serves well, if he plays aggressive and goes for his shots. If he gets passive against Roger, I think Roger will win."

Federer can also equal another Sampras record of 286 weeks at the top of the world rankings if he beats the Scot on Centre Court.
