Met Office confirms hottest ever Wimbledon

The UK Met Office has confirmed that Wimbledon has had its hottest ever day, with temperatures reaching in excess of 35°C at SW19.

A measurement taken at Kew Gardens, the nearest weather observation site to the tennis ground, revealed a temperature of 35.7°C this afternoon.

The previous record was 34.6°C, and had stood for almost 40 years after being measured in 1976.

More than 100 people received medical attention at Wimbledon because of the heat yesterday, while a ball boy was stretchered off after falling ill during John Isner's match earlier.
