Kyle Edmund, James Ward among Wimbledon wildcards

Five British players handed Wimbledon wildcards

Kyle Edmund is one of five British players who have been handed a wildcard for this year's Wimbledon.

The 20-year-old, who is currently nursing an abdominal injury, just missed out on direct entry to the third major of the year, but organisers have handed him a place in the main draw at SW19.

James Ward and Liam Broady have also been given wildcards, while 2002 champion Lleyton Hewitt, who will retire in January, has been granted an opportunity to bid his farewell to the tournament.

Duo Johanna Konta and Naomi Broady will join Heather Watson in the women's draw, while 16-year-old Katie Swan will feature in qualifying.

Laura Robson, who has not played since the 2014 Australian Open, is yet to be handed a wildcard, but she could be provided with direct entry should she prove her fitness before the start of the tournament.
