David Ferrer has pulled out of Wimbledon due to an elbow injury.

The eighth seed was due to play Britain's James Ward in the first round but was unable to recover from the injury in time to appear at the Grand Slam.

His withdrawal means that he will miss his first major tournament since 2002.

Italian Luca Vanni takes his place in the draw.
