Federer 'ecstatic' to reach Wimbledon final

Roger Federer has revealed that he is 'ecstatic' to have reached a record eighth Wimbledon final following his semi-final triumph over Novak Djokovic on Friday.

The 30-year-old beat the defending champion and world number one in four sets on Centre Court to book his place in a 24th Grand Slam final.

"Obviously, I'm ecstatic, I'm so happy," Federer told reporters.

"I played a great match. It has been a tough tournament for me. I was able to step it up and get a bit lucky maybe.

"I thought Novak played well too - the first two sets went really quickly and the third was key to the match."

A win on Sunday would see Federer return to the top of the world rankings while also equalling Pete Sampras and William Renshaw's record of seven titles at SW19.
