Samantha Stosur safely through at US Open

Defending champion Samantha Stosur is safely through to the third round of the US Open after a straight-sets victory over Edina Gallovits-Hall.

The Australian broke the Romanian once to take the opening set 6-3 inside 33 minutes.

It was even easier in the second as the seventh seed saw out the match 6-0 in emphatic style.

Stosur will now take on 31st seed Varvara Lepchenko for a place in round four.
