Result: Gilles Simon sees off Juan Martin del Potro

Gilles Simon scuppered any hopes of a dream comeback for Juan Martin del Potro by beating him in four sets in round three of the US Open.

Former winner del Potro, who has suffered an injury-plagued year, began well in the encounter, winning the first set 6-4.

From there Simon took over, squaring the match by winning the second on a tie-break 7-5.

The Belgian brushed aside the Argentine in the third 6-2, before winning another tie-break in the fourth 7-3 to set up a fourth round clash against either John Isner or Alex Bogomolov Jr.
