Result: Fish advances at Flushing Meadows

American Mardy Fish has advanced to the second round of the US Open after a 6-2 6-2 6-1 victory over German Tobias Kamke.

The eighth seed took just one hour and 43 minutes to ease past the world number 92 on the Arthur Ashe court.

The 29-year-old is the highest-seeded American at Flushing Meadows for the first time.

He has reached at least the semi-final of each of his last four tournaments, including a quarter-final win over Rafael Nadal at the Cincinnati Masters.

Fish will now face either Malek Jaziri or Thiemo de Bakker in round two.
