Djokovic strolls past Berankis

World number one Novak Djokovic made light work of Lithuanian Ricardas Berankis to advance to the second round of the US Open at Flushing Meadows this evening.

The Serbian took less than half-an-hour to claim the first set, but was forced to save three break points in the final game before winning the opener 6-1.

Djokovic continued his superiority in the second, dropping just four points on his own serve on his way to taking it 6-2 and establishing a two-set lead.

In what was otherwise a flawless performance from the tournament winner and 2011 champion, he was broken by Berankis, who is ranked 127 in the world, midway through the third set.

However, Djokovic was always in control and he went on to record a 6-1 6-2 6-2 victory that sees him book a second round meeting against Benjamin Becker.
