Belinda Bencic has reached her first Grand Slam quarter-final at the age of just 17 by defeating number nine seed Jelena Jankovic in straight sets at the US Open.

The first set was an extremely tight contest as both players struggled to keep their own serve, and was taken to a tie-breaker, where the Swiss proved to have enough quality when it counted to record a 8-6 victory.

Bencic took confidence from her first-set win as she went on the offensive against Jankovic's serve and manage to secure three breaks to put her on the brink of victory. The 17-year-old served out for the match to take the set 6-3 to secure a place in the last eight of the competition.

The Swiss will play China's Shuai Peng in the quarter-finals of the tournament.
