Preview: US Open: Amanda Anisimova vs. Iga Swiatek - prediction, head-to-head, tournament so far

Amanda Anisimova vs. Iga Swiatek - prediction, head-to-head, tournament so far

Less than two months after a humiliating defeat to Iga Swiatek at Wimbledon, Amanda Anisimova faces the world No. 2 in Wednesday’s US Open quarter-final for a place in the last four.

The American player was a bundle of nerves at SW19, where she did not win a single game in the 57-minute title match, but she hopes to make their last-eight clash in New York more competitive.

Match preview

Anisimova's US Open results were quite disappointing until her impressive performance this year, which saw her reach the quarter-finals for the first time.

Three of the 24-year-old's previous five appearances in New York ended in the first round, with the others reaching the second and third rounds.

Nevertheless, the 2025 Wimbledon finalist had advanced to the second week at Flushing Meadows for the first time by reaching the last 16, but another victory on Monday means that the three-time WTA titleholder is just one win away from back-to-back Grand Slam semi-finals.

To do so, Anisimova must beat the player who crushed her very recently at Wimbledon, where the American No. 3 was competing for her first Grand Slam final.

Seeking to bounce back from that setback, the home player hopes to get the better of the Polish star and improve her 37-15 record in 2025.

On the opposite side of the net is Swiatek, whose performances during the US Open have not always been eye-catching, but her results have remained consistent nonetheless.

After a shaky clay season, which culminated in her losing the Roland Garros crown, the Polish star has reached the final in Bad Homburg, won the Wimbledon title and claimed the crown in Cincinnati on the eve of the finals.

The world No. 2 enters the Wimbledon final rematch having claimed nine wins from the last 10 matches, putting her one more victory away from another semi-final in New York since 2022, when the Pole won the Slam.

Since that success, the 24-time WTA champion has failed to advance past the fourth round two years ago and the quarter-finals in 2024.

However, the second seed's form as she heads into New York suggests another chance to reach the last four, which would continue her streak of reaching the semi-finals of the previous majors this year.

Swiatek is undeniably the favourite heading into Wednesday, as she aims to make the American uncomfortable for the second time in as many weeks.

Head To Head

Wimbledon (2025) - Final: Swiatek 6-0 6-0

Swiatek claimed a stunning 6-0, 6-0 victory against Anisimova in July’s Wimbledon final, and the second seed aims to improve her head-to-head record to 2-0.

The Pole has been unbeaten since her loss to Clara Tauson in Montreal, currently riding a nine-match winning streak, and she is determined to make it 10 consecutive wins.

That goal may be challenged by the American star's 5-2 record over top-10 opponents in 2025, although her most recent defeat was in that Wimbledon final.

We say: Swiatek to win in three sets

The safe bet is to predict Swiatek reaching the US Open semi-finals again, her first time since 2022, but Anisimova will likely put up stronger resistance on Wednesday.

While we anticipate a stronger performance from the American on home ground, the second seed is expected to beat the Wimbledon finalist in three sets.
