Wozniacki: 'Win means so much to me'

Caroline Wozniacki has expressed her delight at reaching the quarter-finals of the US Open by beating Maria Sharapova in three sets.

The Dane secured a 6-4 2-6 6-2 victory at Flushing Meadows yesterday afternoon.

The 24-year-old, who went through a public break-up with former fiance Rory McIlroy in May, has reached the quarter-final stage of a Grand Slam for the first time since 2012.

"It means so much to me. It's been a bit up and down for me this year," said Wozniacki. "It's a new year and I've gotten older, and hopefully a little wiser.

"I feel good. I feel comfortable when I play out there. It's just so much fun to play out there again on the big court."

Wozniacki will take on Sara Errani in the final eight.
