Victoria Azarenka: 'I had to fight back in US Open second round'

Victoria Azarenka admits that she needed to "fight back" against Yanina Wickmayer to earn a place in the third round of the US Open.

Victoria Azarenka has admitted that she needed to battle her way to victory after facing a tough test from Yanina Wickmayer in the second round of the US Open.

The two-time Grand Slam champion, who made 21 unforced errors overall, managed to seal a 7-5 6-4 victory in the Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Despite achieving the win, the Belarusian has conceded that she needed to show some comeback spirit.

"I really had to fight back," Azarenka said after the match. "When somebody's playing well, you just try to find a way."

Azarenka, whose last Grand Slam win was at the Australian Open in 2013, was knocked out of this tournament in the quarter-finals last year.
