Roof plans for US Open show courts

Roof plans for US Open show courts

Plans to put roofs on two of the US Open show courts are in place, according to a US tennis official.

This year's tournament has been affected by rain, and it is likely to finish late for the fourth consecutive year.

However, retractable roofs are planned for Arthur Ashe Stadium and Louis Armstrong Stadium.

"It's called the 'strategic vision' and the plans will be showcased and unleashed very shortly," Jeff Tarango, a member of the USTA board of directors, told BBC Radio 5 Live.

"We had a quote for rebuilding that just got doubled on us. We have a very good strategic plan for getting the roof. It's a really tough decision but it is in place and all the money is being secured, saved up and taken care of."

Both Wimbledon and the Australian Open currently have roofs which can be used on certain stadia, while the French Open will have a structure implemented in 2016.
