Simona Halep: 'I played at my best level in US Open first round'

Simona Halep has claimed that she was at her best level when she took on Marina Erakovic in the first round of the US Open today.

The 2014 French Open finalist took the first set 6-2, but her opponent was forced to retire through injury with Halep 3-0 up in the second.

"I had a good start," Halep told The AP. "I was aggressive and played my best tennis today. I know I can play my best tennis here. I have no expectations. Serena [Williams] is there. I just want to play my best tennis."

The 23-year-old's best finish at Flushing Meadows has been the fourth round.
