Federer survives Falla scare

Roger Federer has scraped into the second round of the men's Olympic singles with a three-set victory over Colombian Alejandro Falla at Wimbledon.

It took the number one seed just 32 minutes to claim the first set as a single break of serve gave him a 6-3 win.

The Swiss broke again in the second, but Falla saved three match points before breaking his opponent back to level it at 5-5. The Colombian then broke for a second time to take the set 7-5 on a tense Centre Court.

The 17-time Grand Slam winner looked on course to win the third set with an early break, but Falla stuck with his opponent and broke again to get back on terms.

However, Federer broke twice more to close out the contest 6-3 and set up a tie with France's Julien Benneteau.
