Roger Federer felt Olympic nerves

17-time Grand Slam winner Roger Federer says that winning an Olympic gold medal would be "a huge deal" and "a massive highlight" of his life.

Roger Federer has said that winning an Olympic gold medal would be "a huge deal" and "a massive highlight" of his life.

The 30-year-old, who has won 17 Grand Slam titles, reached the second round of the men's tennis event with a 6-3 5-7 6-3 win over Alejandro Falla.

"I don't solely play for myself," said Federer. "When I play I do play for Switzerland and I do try to be a good ambassador, as I travel for eight months of the year, but it is different having the Swiss cross on your jersey and you do feel the pressure.

"It's not something that we're used to, everybody talking about it on the street in Switzerland. It only comes every four years so it's unusual and I feel that too. It's a huge deal [to win gold], it would be a massive highlight of my life."

Federer will now face Julien Benneteau in the last 32.
