Novak Djokovic believes that winning gold at the Olympics 'immortalises' an athlete.

Olympics tennis second seed Novak Djokovic has claimed that the Games is the tournament that the world remembers more than any other.

Djokovic came away with bronze in Beijing in 2008 and the Serbian believes that the gold medal makes an athlete "immortal" in the sporting world.

"In the past when you win the Olympic Games you are considered immortal and you get eternal glory," Djokovic said.

"I don't think it has changed much really because that is how much it means to the world of sport and to the athletes. This is the most recognisable sport event in history."

Djokovic will take on Italy's Fabio Fognini in the first round.
