Andy Murray succumbs to Roger Federer masterclass

Murray succumbs to Federer masterclass

Roger Federer produced a stunning display to defeat Andy Murray 6-0 6-1 in just 56 minutes in this evening's ATP Tour World Finals encounter at London's O2 Arena.

The British number one had to defeat the 17-time Grand Slam champion in straight sets in order to secure his progress to the semi-finals, but this prospect was extinguished after just 24 minutes.

The Swiss veteran broke serve after Murray struck a volley into the net, before hitting a forehand long to put Federer 2-0 up in the first set.

The 33-year-old grew into the contest as he proceeded to up his game and seal the set flawlessly without too much difficulty.

Federer went on to break Murray at the first chance in the second set, the British number one's second double fault proving costly.

Worse was to come for the Scottish 27-year-old as he tallied up more unforced errors to gift Federer another break, his 10th game on the bounce.

Murray did manage to avoid a double-bagel by getting a game on the board towards the end of the contest, but this was a mere consolation, as Federer secured the match immediately afterwards.
