Heather Watson through to Australian Open final qualifying round

Great Britain's Heather Watson is through to the final qualifying round of the Australian Open after her opponent Stephanie Foretz Gacon retired two games into the second set.

Heather Watson is one win away from qualifying for the main draw of the Australian Open after being handed an easy passage through to the final round.

The 21-year-old had blitzed her way through the opening set against world number 162 Stephanie Foretz Gacon without dropping a game.

Watson continued her dominance at the start of the second with another break of serve, and that proved to be the final straw for the Brit's opponent as she quickly retired from the encounter.

The world number 120 will now play Irina Falconi for a place in the main draw.
