Unlikely duo win men's doubles at Australian Open

Lukasz Kubot and Robert Lindstedt have won the men's doubles title at the Australian Open.

The Polish-Swedish duo, who were competing in their first Grand Slam together, beat Eric Butorac and Raven Klaasen 6-3 6-3 in Saturday's final.

Prior to arriving in Melbourne, Kubot and Lindstedt had failed to win a match in three tournaments together.

Kubot, who is the first Polish man to win a Grand Slam men's doubles title for 36 years, celebrated the triumph in style by climbing into the stands and embracing his supporters.

The result of the women's doubles was less of a surprise, as defending champions Sara Errani and Roberta Vinci retained their crown by defeating Russian pair Ekaterina Makarova and Elena Vesnina 6–4 3–6 7–5.

The final of the mixed doubles will take place tomorrow, as sixth seeds Sania Mirza and Horia Tecau take on Kristina Mladenovic and Daniel Nestor.
