Serena Williams romps past Ashleigh Barty

Serena Williams has powered into the second round of the Australian Open with an emphatic straight-sets win over wildcard Ashleigh Barty.

The American world number one eased through the opening set 6-2 before closing out the contest 6-1 with just under an hour on the clock.

The 32-year-old will now face Serbian world number 104 Vesna Dolonc for a place in the third round of the Grand Slam.

Williams made it through to the quarter-finals of last year's tournament before losing to fellow American Sloane Stephens.
