Svetlana Kuznetsova books her place in round four of the Australian Open with a 6-2 4-6 6-3 victory over Carla Suarez Navarro.

Two-time Grand Slam winner Svetlana Kuznetsova has progressed to round four of the Australian Open courtesy of a 6-2 4-6 6-3 win over Carla Suarez Navarro.

Kuznetsova won the first three games of the match, before comfortably sealing the opening set inside 39 minutes.

Navarro, who reached the quarter-finals at Melbourne Park in 2009, then capitalised on 19 unforced errors from the Russian in the second set to force a decider.

The Spaniard was the first to break serve in the final set, but Kuznetsova responded in turn immediately before breaking twice more to seal her place in the last 16, where she is likely to face Caroline Wozniacki.
