Roger Federer eases past Alexandr Dolgopolov to reach the third round of the Australian Open and claim his 299th win in a Grand Slam event.

The 17-time Grand Slam champion was comfortable on the court in Melbourne as he did not drop a single game during the contest, which lasted just over an hour and a half.

Federer broke serve in the sixth game of the first set, and that was enough for the Swiss pro to take the lead Down Under.

Dolgopolov, who did not create a break point throughout the entire match, tried to keep himself in the second set by holding off Federer, but the 34-year-old managed to snatch serve to take a 6-5 lead.

After going two sets up, the third lasted just 22 minutes as Federer broke three consecutive times to progress into the next round and secure his 299th win in a Grand Slam event.
