Madison Brengle triumphs in all-American meeting with Coco Vandeweghe

Madison Brengle continues her fine run at the Australian Open with a 6-3 6-2 victory over fellow American Coco Vandeweghe.

Madison Brengle has beaten Coco Vandeweghe 6-3 6-2 in an all-American clash in the third round of the Australian Open.

It was the perfect start to the match for Vandeweghe, who secured a break of serve in the opening game in Hisense Arena.

Brengle, who only recently returned to action following a procedure to remove a cancerous spot from her leg, broke back midway through the set, and she battled to find her rhythm from the back of the court before clinching the second break needed to win the opener.

Vandeweghe struggled to recover from the setback, and she was on the back foot once again when Brengle used two breaks to race into a 3-0 lead in the second set.

Brengle rarely looked comfortable on her own serve, but the 24-year-old converted match point at the second time of asking to continue her career-best run at a Grand Slam.

The world number 64 will meet Madison Keys or Petra Kvitova in the fourth round.
