Victoria Azarenka thrashes Eleni Daniilidou in straight sets to throw down the gauntlet to her Australian Open rivals.

Defending champion Victoria Azarenka has won her second-round match against Eleni Daniilidou this morning in just 55 minutes with a ruthless display at the Australian Open.

Azarenka made a fast start against the Greek veteran, who struggled badly on serve to hold just once in the opening set.

Danilildou stopped the rot in the sixth game but lost the first set 6-1 as Azarenka took complete control.

The top seed produced her best point of the match in a moment of rare pressure on serve, mixing up her baseline assault with a delicate drop shot to flummox her opponent.

Azarenka finished the job in clinical style with a clean sweep in the second set to see her through to the third round.
