Bernard Tomic: 'Rafael Nadal upset is possible'

Tomic: 'Nadal upset is possible'

Home favourite Bernard Tomic is hoping to use his confidence-boosting display at the Apia International Sydney to help himself shock Rafael Nadal in the opening round of the Australian Open.

The Queensland native reached the final of the last warm-up event to the season's opening Grand Slam, only to be beaten by Juan Martin del Potro.

He told reporters: "Everything is possible these days, everything is possible.

"I'm playing good. I'm pretty confident. I've just got to play the tennis I played early throughout Sydney. Obviously, if I can do that, I'm going to give myself a chance.

"It's going to be difficult, going to have to be one of those days where I can play my best."

The 21-year-old's best performance at the Australian Open is reaching the fourth round in 2012.
