Simona Halep delighted by "great" victory over Bethanie Mattek-Sands

Third seed Simona Halep is looking forward to her meeting with Yanina Wickmayer in the fourth round of the Australian Open after seeing off Bethanie Mattek-Sands.

Simona Halep has declared herself "happy" with this morning's straight-sets victory over Bethanie Mattek-Sands in the third round of the Australian Open.

The third seed was pushed close by her opponent before prevailing 6-4 7-5 on the Margaret Court Arena to set up a meeting with Yanina Wickmayer.

"I'm okay with my game," Halep told reporters. "I played well today, better than the second round, so that's good. She was playing very strong.

"I was just trying to keep playing my game, hitting aggressive and staying very close to the baseline, and I served well. So I'm happy with how I played today. It was a great, great match from both of us."

Halep also revealed that she is "confident" of achieving further success at Grand Slam tournaments this season.
