Roger Federer targets Australian Open comeback

Roger Federer reveals plans to return from injury in time for the Australian Open.

Roger Federer has revealed that he is aiming to return from injury in time for the Australian Open early next year.

The Swiss, who missed out on the Olympics in Rio and is unable to take part in this month's US Open, said that he is hoping to be fit for the January Grand Slam.

"I'm working for the Australian Open," he told reporters. "I'm doing well."

"It was a tough decision to say the least - going out of Rio, the US Open, the World Tour Finals. But in some ways it ended up being a simple decision. Health is my number one thing."

Federer has been out of action since late July, last playing competitively at Wimbledon, where he bowed out in the semi-finals to eventual runner-up Milos Raonic.
