Elena Baltacha admits that she underperformed during her Australian Open loss to Stephanie Foretz Gacon.

Great Britain's number one Elena Baltacha has admitted that she underperformed during her Australian Open loss to Stephanie Foretz Gacon earlier today.

The 28-year-old was beaten in straight sets by her French opponent, who is 53 places lower than Baltacha in the world rankings.

"All the prep went really well but today for whatever reason I just could not get into the match at all," she told a press conference.

"The second set was better but I didn't feel comfortable. It is very frustrating, just one of those days."

Baltacha's best run in Melbourne has seen her reach round three, a feat she managed in 2005 and 2010.
