Murray, Peers win Finals opener

Jamie Murray and John Peers marked their ATP World Tour Finals debut with a 7-6(5) 3-6 11-9 victory over Fabio Fognini and Simone Bolelli this afternoon.

Having spurned a set point in the 10th game of the first set, Murray and his Australian partner eventually wrapped it up in a tie-breaker.

However, despite recovering from being 4-1 down to 4-3 in the second set, an error from Murray handed their Italian opponents another break opportunity, which they duly converted to force the encounter into a first to 10 points match tie-breaker.

It was evenly contested all the way through until when Murray and Peers were 10-9 in front, a smash from the latter secured the win for the number four seeds in one hour and 41 minutes.

Another triumph over either the Bryan brothers or Rohan Bopanna and Florin Mergea should be enough for the Scottish-Australian partnership to advance through to the semi-finals at the O2 Arena in London.
